Drive unit for my MB2A50S
Hello to all,

I recently had a bad incident with my Volvo Penta MB2A50S needing to replace the drive unit. What luck that Marine Services has opened at the same time as my misfortune. I wish to thank Howard with his quick and professional service. As I live in Montreal Canada and have a Tanzer 26 sailboat, the delivery of the drive unit from UK Service has been the key to the maintenance of my motor. Thanks Howard.
Also I am interested in the Dynastart system for this motor and would like more information if possible.

I will get some detail together for the electric starter. I can supply a bracket for the starter. I have been busy tracking down many users world wide and the new business is looking good, thanks for your contribution please forward the web site address to any sailing contacts that you have, many thanks Howard

Edgar, what happened to your lower unit? I just broke the gear selector on mine. I was able to engage fwd but not disengage. An interesting docking maneuver followed. I found that one of the small ears that engages with the shift rod had snapped off so I'm looking for a new part or will have one made. The rest of the bottom end looks great - no sign of wear after 20 plus years.

RE: Drive unit for my MB2A50S
Beware MB2 owner.

I found out that some lower unit were build with the engaging rod inverted in the lower unit. Mine was and I had the same problem as described above.

The round end of the shaft that engage or touch the selector should go toward the front and not toward the back. The selector had to fight against that square end and this was the problem.

Here are the parts number
selector broken: item 25 in the workshop manual (gear shifting bar)
rod inverted: item 16 trust pin

Hope this will help you all.

RE: Drive unit for my MB2A50S
I think the part is on its way to me - apparently the last one in stock in North America - price $US 170. If I didn't need the boat back in the water next week I could have had one made for a lot less, or looked for a used part.
Thanks
Ian

Hi Everyone..

I also tried the Suzuki impeller on my MB2 but it failed.

Was there anything else that I´m supposed to do to get it right

It simply wont pump any cooling water...
