engine power from 7.5 to 9.9 +
hi all i have been busy rebuilding my mb2a i have replaced the cam and carb jets to make it a 9.9hp also raised the compresion by having the head skimed and flowed the head in the hope of not just more power but smoother running thanks to howard i got all the gaskets and seals i neaded to rebuild the engine and have also striped and repainted all parts that where in need of paint just a thought for anyone wanting to repaint there engine remember to use a ally etching primer
or the paint will just peel away

i will post with my findings about engine when back in water dont know when yet as windows are out and away being refurbished and seats remade and covered so lots to do before spring

RE: engine power from 7.5 to 9.9 +
have now fabricated a exhaust and test run the engine wot a differance runs so smooth and ticks over so low just need the exhaust sorted i have just sent it off to howard to be rebuilt due to it falling apart when i tryed to remove it

if anyone knows where the pics of howards elec start convertion are could you let me know or post them here so i can look if there will be room to fit it on my boat as the pull start is hard to get to even though it is up though the deck

thanks andy

Glad the result is up to your expectation.

Here in Quebec Canada it is still snowing. The sailboat will not float until the end of may. It has been a bad week for the weather and we pray for a little bit of sun. I wonder how people of the north or south can live without any sun for 6 months.

Keep us inform if you will about your engine.

John

hi all just back from isle of wight and the wind droped just after leaving cowes so motored back to portsmouth doing about 7.5 knots all the way at 3/4 power. last year we only could get 4.5 knots under power so very pleased with my little engine still starts first pull and runs with no problems does use a little more fuel but not much and a big thank you to howard for all the help with parts and also the exhaust that he remade for me it's worked a treat since it's been on the engine thanks for that howard

Hi John, it's not that bad even if you live above the north polar circle. Sun goes down in December and comes up in January. Mean time there is moon and stars that reflects in the snow. The reward is in the summer when you can sail in full sunshine for weeks in a row :-)

RE: engine power from 7.5 to 9.9 +
The pic with the green soundproofing looks interesting. Is this yours? This is very similar to the way the alternator was attached to mine when I first got it. Do you have details of the parts, especially the motor/ dynastart? Does the belt have enough grip to start the engine? Are those toothed pulleys? Is there any way of tensioning the belt?

hi the green is a camping bedroll just used as a background the pullys as not touthed but the belt is yes it starts no problems the dynastart was a used one of ebay and the plate at the top is slotted to ajust the belt tension it works well so far the boat has only been back in the water for two weeks and no problems yet
