Volvo Penta Seal Ring - 855046
Dear Howard,
For maintenance purposes I have taken out my reliable MB2A engine. Before the engine will be put in to place again I would like to replace the sealing ring. I browsed through the web shop but did not find this part. Is it possible to purchase a new sealing ring? What is the expected life time of such a seal ring? Kind Regards, Wessel Brouwer Friendship 22 |

RE: Volvo Penta Seal Ring - 855046
Hi
I know that they are very rare but Howard shoul be able to help you out on this one. Mine is 25 years old and still good. I have another one left because I have 2 engines. I keep it in baby powder in a dark plastic bag. It is not new but might save my life one day. I know that many years ago a company bought the last 200 that were on the market for their own engine the 280 I guess. You should be able to find one here. Good luck John. |

RE: Volvo Penta Seal Ring - 855046
I have one Ring that was installed in 1978 (and was in use until I stripped the engine for parts last year) and its still in good condition! So thats how long they can last, Howard

RE: Volvo Penta Seal Ring - 855046
Wessel, the sealing rings are very reliable and many installations have had the same ring since 1987. My sealing ring to the best of my knowledge is the original (1980). Damage only occurs if the ring is damaged at time of installation and removal of the sail drive. One other cause of concern is that if the ring is exposed to oil or Petrol for long periods it can start to become cracked. So unless yours is damaged I would not replace it. If you do need one I can ship you a good used ring. I can get you most parts used or new but in this case a close inspection for cracks is really all you need to do. Happy Christmas, Howard
And thanks for the very clear pictures Regards, Howard (Returning Winter 2010) |
