Electric starter kit update November 2008
Well you all know who you are! We now have 8 MB2a50s users who are interested in the electric starter kit. I have been in touch with some of you recently but for the remainder and any others interested......The situation is that I have a number of engines to rebuild over the winter and much other committed work for mb2a50s users. Once the is out of the way I will get the kit sorted out, I know its hard to wait when the solution has been around for 2 years but I can only spare a little time as my other activities are quite demanding at present and peoples jobs do depend on my efforts. So I do intend to make the kit available in 2009 but exactly when I can not promise, the good thing is that you can be completely sure it is very well tested. Many thanks in you patience in this matter, Howard

Regards, Howard

quaich Wrote:hi howard, any suggestions my engine has good spark but plugs are wet after a couple of pulls and engine will not start regards quaich.

I assume your wet plugs are wet with Petrol not water. You could have water on the plugs through a number of faults but lets think about Petrol. The reasons can be many fold but I would start with the assumption that the engine has just become flooded and remove both plugs check the gaps clean them and turn the engine over before you replace them for a few minuets (got way to keep you warm!). Once you are sure that the excess Petrol is gone then replace the plugs and try again.

You could then if still no luck look into cleaning the carb the jets can become blocked from time to time. But proberbly its just the above. You could also try warming the plugs before starting. The compression can be down if the engine has been flooded as the oil can get washed out leaving a less than perfect seal arround the piston rings (all will be well once run for a while), good luck, Howard

RE: Electric starter kit update November 2008
Hi Howard,

I am interested in the electric starter kit as well, as an addition to normaly hand pull start, but perhaps mostly to get a better generation of power, as I have seen in the article that the starter generates power when the engine is running.

It the kit anywere near completion? Any price estimates yet?

regards,

Per Christopher

Per Christopher perhaps you can help me to help you
(Pictutres zttached)

My (little) time is mostly spent on finding spare parts, workshop repairs and solving specific problems for our fellow Mb2a50s users. I do have a plan to get the kit together as I know many would find it very useful.

If you would like to help the kit's progress then there is something that you could do. If you would like to start a thread and get as many interested Mb2a50s users to register there interest then I could put a little time aside to move the kit forward.

The starter is completely proven in design and quite in operation delivering an additional 10 / 11 Amps of charging while still having the hand start function. If you can show at least 5 would be really interested then I will commit to doing my level best to get it available by the end of 2010 possibly before. I would need to buy the components in bulk (at least 5 and 10 would be better) to get good pricing. Once you have got 5 interested parties I will be able to cost the kit within one month.

You may be able to get help from other interested users, hope this helps,Howard

Dear Howard,

It is great having you back at the forum. Hopefully from 2009 has been a good year for you, both in profession and health.

Iam interested in the starterkit. The only problem might be the fitting space is quite small on a Friendship 22. Could you give me the measurements of the starterkit? Enclosed you will find a photo of the installation of the MB2a50s in the friendship 22.
